My late grandfather, Ryszard Kwiatkowski, was a fitter with 303 Squadron 1940-1943 and then with 308 Squadron (1943-1946). Jan Zumbach was his Squadron Leader and then a friend, meeting up again after the war. Towards the end of the war my grandfather used to take care of Jerzy's Spitfire and they also became good friends.Sadly, my grandfather died in 2002 before all three of us could meet together. Nevertheless, when Jerzy came to Warsaw last year we met and flew together in my Tiger Moth - the type in which he made his first solo on June 6, 1943.
