Hind: Sight

A news feature in the August 2004 FlyPast started the adventure off... it described the discovery by Guy Black's Aero Vintage organisation of Hawker Hind biplanes lying in a scrapyard in Kabul, Afghanistan. Steeped in a love of historic aircraft from an early age, Patrick Chriswick could not pull his mind away from the possibilities. A former Royal Marine, with a Commercial Pilot's Licence and currently working in computer systems, Patrick had long been looking for "a challenging project". He quickly sought out Guy and started to tap into his considerable knowledge of the breed. In July 2005 he was in Kabul and had located the vast yard, which largely contained tanks and armoured fighting vehicles with "untold military treasures almost at every turn". He soon found the cache of Hinds, with six full airframes plus fuselage centre sections and many other items to whet his appetite.
