Vampire arrives

Bournemouth Aviation Museum gained a new exhibit, the fuselage 'pod' of DH Vampire T.11 XK627, on June 22. This artefact was put up for sale by internet auction early in 2009 and bought by Neville Chambers of Chambers Property Care, who has loaned it to the Dorset museum. Built at Hawarden, Hertfordshire, XK627 first flew in 1956 and was displayed at the Farnborough Airshow in September that same year. It was in service with the RAF's Central Flying School at Little Rissington, Gloucestershire, and with 8 Flying Training School at Swinderby, Lines,rnbefore being retired and sold to Hawker rnSiddeley in december 1968.
