Wg Cdr Derek Martin obe officially opened the Flying Boat Centre at Pembroke Dock, Wales, on September 25. The 89-year-old pilot flew with three operational squadrons and commanded a Short Sunderland ferry unit at Pembroke Dock at the height of the Battle ofrnthe Atlantic campaign in World War Two.rnThe centre is in a wartime building owned and refurbished by Milford Haven Port Authority. It focuses on RAF Pembroke Dock and its flying-boats and displays parts recovered from Sunderland I T9044 - whichrnsank off the town in 1940. Wg Cdr Martin is one of the pilots who flew T9044.
