In the UK aviation calendar, April is the last month of the purgatory that is winter. For many years this has been the status quo. This is no longer the case, because an organisation called Keeping Memories Alive brought together a fusion of static aircraft and veteran aircrew to produce the Gathering of Warbirds and Legends at the former Battle of Britain airfield at North Weald on April 25.rnThe masterminds behind this new event, Kevin Broughall and Iain Arnold, took the rule book and re-wrote it, with the help of much of the Essex airfield's flying community and other friends. This was not their first outing as organisers; that was the Gathering of Hurricanes and Legends which took place at North Weald last October, putting veteran pilots and machines together to raise cash for charity.
