A small team of enthusiasts based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, are attempting to create an airworthy reproduction of the 1930s Bugatti 100P monoplane, a unique Italian creation that never actually flew. Led by retired USAF fighter pilot Scotty Wilson and engineer Gregg Carlson, the Blue Dream project has carried out painstaking research to build its version of the Bugatti, drawing on all the limited archive material available. The fuselage and tail section have already been built, and work on the gearbox is in the final stages of design in the UK. Conceived as an air racer by Ettore Bugatti and Louis de Monge with a projected top speed of over 500mph (805km/h), the development of the original 100P was interrupted by the outbreak of war.
