Flying The Flag

The Royal New Zealand Air Force staged a huge airshow at Ohakea on March 31, marking its 75th anniversary. It coincided with Operation Kiwi Flag, an air mobility exercise involving aircraft from the USA, Singapore, Australia, French Caledonia and New Zealand. No fewer than 70,000 people turned up to watch the show - so popular was it that roads were blocked for miles in all directions as people abandoned their cars and walked in. Around 120 aircraft also flew in before the show began. These included two Douglas Dakotas and an Air New Zealand Boeing 777 - even an RNZAF 757 delivered some passengers for the event.
