Having enjoyed your recent Spotlight on the Vampire and test pilot John Cunningham, I would like to contribute a nice story about him. Switzerland ordered 75 Vampire Mk.6s in 1949 and all the aircraft were to be flown there by a small number of test pilots, including John Cunningham, who in February 1950 was asked to fly J-1048. For him this was an excellent opportunity to spend a few additional days skiing in the Alps.
