With less than 12 months to go before Ian vacates his present office, he's hoping that his final year with the Flight will not speed by as quickly as the past six. "It really won't be long before I'm saying cheerio," he says, sadly. "The whole thing has been remarkable. As far as RAF jobs go, this has got to be the Holy Grail. I think what I'll look back on most fondly is meeting all the veterans, learning from their memories and witnessing their incredible humility. They don't see what the fuss is about - as far as they're concerned, they merely answered the call of their country. In my opinion, every last one of them should be famous." One thing that veterans have told Ian time and time again is that they believe young people today would do exactly the same thing if necessary. "I agree with that. We've got some fantastic people in the armed forces.
