'Biggies Biplane' marks BE.2 centenary

The Sywell, Northants-based flying reproduction of a World War One RAF BE.2 fighter got airborne on February 3 to mark the centenary of the type's first flight. A proposed flight on the anniversary itself, February 1, had to be postponed due to blustery conditions. The 'Biggies Biplane' is a flying tribute to the world's first purpose-designed military aeroplane, which in 1912 represented the cutting edge of technology. Geoffrey de Havilland flew the BE.2 for the first time from the Royal Aircraft Factory at Farnborough, Hants.
