The method involves manually and/or automatically marking a target area in X-ray images (18, 19) recorded in a current relative position. An aperture setting is determined for smallest complete recording of the target area. Representations are produced and displayed based on the X-ray images. Objective marks (20, 21) i.e. rectangle, of the target area and view field marks are faded in the representations. The representations are updated concerning the view field marks during manual or automatic displacement of the relative position by consideration of displacement information. An independent claim is also included for an X-ray device.
