PRESSING ON WITH 90 SOUIDRON

When the Battle of the Ruhr began, the Stirling-equipped 90 Squadron had not long been operational. It had re-formed at Bottesford in November 1942, and previously flew Fortress Is before a disappointed RAF withdrew the type. Commanded by Wg Cdr J C Claydon, 90 Squadron had settled at Ridgewell in Essex two days before tiie end of 1942. Its first major raid had been to Hamburg on February 3, 1943 and it contributed to eight further raids that cost it seven crews before the attack on Essen opened the batde.
