Douglas B-66 Destroyer

The subject of this month's Spotlight is an often-overlooked twin-jet light bomber that served the USAF well for over 15 years. Just under 300 Destroyers were built, the design developed from the outwardly similar A-3 Sky warrior, a carrier-based heavy attack aircraft. The B-66 was intended to replace the successful but now obsolete A-26 Invader, and was built in three key variants - as a bomber, for reconnaissance, and for electronic warfare. In the latter role, it fulfilled an essential task in the Vietnam War. With exclusive artwork and rarely seen images, we reflect on the type's history.
