Fast, agile and stunningly beautiful, the North American P-51 Mustang is regarded as one of the most important and popular warbirds on the planet. It draws plaudits from enthusiasts and pilots alike, and its role in changing I the daylight air war over Europe in the last two years or so of the conflict cannot be overstated. A good number of P-51s - around the 175 mark - remain airworthy today, and one of the premier organizations for keeping this total (and pilots trained to fly them safely) so high is Florida-based specialists, Stallion 51. The team, which has its operating base at Kissimmee Gateway Airport near Orlando; flies the Mustang at airshows, has performed in the USAF Heritage flight programme, trains pilots, maintains Mustangs, gives orientation flights, brokers P-51 sales, and much, much, more.
