I was over the French Alps when the canopy of my Sabre Mk.4 suddenly slid open. The frame banged me on my helmet as it moved hack towards the stops, then hit me again as it slid closed. The second it opened the cockpit depressurised with a big swoosh and all the air in my lungs gushed out like a blown tyre as my ears popped. There was a split second of fog that was sucked out of the cockpit immediately. Leaving in the same manner was my map. Fortunately, my flight navigation card was securelv fastened to my kneeboard.
