Viggen refurbished at Swedish museum

A group of volunteers at the Stenbacks Flygmuseum in Skurup, Sweden, has restored the exterior of Saab AJ 37 Viggen 37027. The aircraft has the distinction of having served on all Swedish attack wings. Towards the end of its 'career' it was among a batch of 47 jets to receive modifications - these were designated AJS 37. The last wing to operate 37027 was F 10 in AEngelholm, from which it made a memorable final flight on June 10,2001. The Viggen had been specially painted in an eye-catching red livery with the words 'The show must go on' displayed prominently on the fuselage. It was initially transferred to the Swedish Air Force Museum at Malmen, which then passed it on to the Malmoe Technology & Maritime Museum. After many years of external storage its condition had inevitably worsened. It was acquired by the Skurup attraction - also home to the two-seater Viggen SK 37 prototype - in May this year.
