Hi there. At last month's end, we had finished with loop trimming. Now it's on to the good stuff! It's time to trim for pitch behavior in the vertical lines, and for pitch and roll in the Knife Edges. This part of the discussion might be summed up as having a few simple rules, a few more not-so-simple rules, and some fairly vague areas. That is why the goal will be more to give you an understanding of how to carry out your trimming tests and experiments, and less to try and provide a "cookbook" approach. Wherever the cookbook works, we will present it. Back in the Bronze Age (I don't want to go all the way to the Stone Age) the progression of maneuver complexity, from one Precision Aerobatic class to the next, meant that a pilot could get away with a plane that just was loop trimmed for the entry-level competition classes. Then he would need a plane that would fly clean vertical lines in the next class. In the class after that, the point rolling maneuvers were introduced, and that required the plane to be trimmed for them.
