R/C Pattern

We have been talking about engines for quite some time now. While I have always found engine care and setup to be a com- pelling subject, it is only part of the "toolkit" that we, as aerobatics flyers and competitors, require. We will discuss some other subjects, soon. Of course, even the tools in the toolkit need maintenance. As an example, you will notice that I have very little to say about the recent "DZ" generation of YS 140s and 160s. That's because I haven't run one of them for myself. Next month, we will discuss the care and feeding of the earlier, pressure-fed YS engines, and I will be researching the subject of real-world DZ maintenance, secondhand. Like most writers, I prefer to stick with firsthand observations, so this will be new territory for me. While on the subject of new territory, you will see a picture of an Axi 5330/18 brush-less motor, and some associated hardware. Your writer is presently assembling a Hangar 9 Funtana 908 for review in this same magazine. The ARF kit looks nothing short of great, but the real excitement is that the plane is of just the right size and frontal area to serve as a Pattern power-plant testbed.
