Happy New Year, all! Yes, I realize that this is the March issue, but this is being written just as the new flying year begins. It's too cold and my sinuses are too clogged to be running around at the local New Year's Day Fun-Fly, so here I am, at the computer typing in the new year. I guess that means that it's still building season. Still, it feels brand new somehow. That's one of many wonderful aspects about this event: every new season brings its own challenges. Every year in this event tends to have a character all its own. Some years are new adventures, like the first year that you make a big move up in competition class, while others represent that chance to keep refining your skills in the same class ... and maybe make a killing at trophy time too. Some years are best described as long plateaus in the wondrous and sometimes frustrating learning curve that is Precision Aerobatics. Other, better, years will be cherished for rapid growth they witness. Some are only to be appreciated many years after the fact, like the season I lost the number one and number two airplanes and then had to drag "old faithful" out to do battle for another year.
