"No one else saw it, but Ian Spinner insisted a strange looking fighter had singled him out as a target during the aerialrnmelee over the Meuse River. He was adamant. He described a craft of oddly bright colouring.rn"Bernard Brolly and I scoffed. We had not seen the flying machine during the air battle. As days passed without a sighting, Bernard and I made sport of Ian and his phantom aircraft. Ian's urging became so persuasive I gave in and began to draw the aeroplane in my notebook. He leaned over my shoulder, giving exacting detail. Still a disbeliever, I completed the sketch by adding a touch of caprice, labeling it the Phantom.
