Gene Sport

George (Bud) Gere, Jr. designed the Gere Sport biplane in the 1930-1931 timeframe. The upper wing span was 19 feet; the lower wing span was 18 feet. The wings were built of wood, probably Sitka spruce. The fuselage and tail feathers were welded steel tube. Bud finished the airframe, but before he could install an engine, he died in a motorized ice sled accident. In remembrance of Bud, Bud's father and friends decided to complete the project. They installed a Chevrolet engine and finished up the airframe, covering, and rigging.
