How do you combine the roles? Although it does take time to remain current on the Boeing 737, I find the two roles very complementary. Being on the flight line is the quickest way to find out what is working and what is not. Within our leadership team our philosophy is to load from the front. The vice-president of technical operations is a qualified aviation medical examiner, the head of guest services (overseeing airports and in-flight) is a customer service agent and is about to become a qualified flight attendant and our vice-president of flight operations is a pilot as well. It gives them the "street credibility" they need. Besides, for me flying is by far the best part of the job.
