All 18 Oil Workers And Crew Survive Bond Super Puma North Sea Crash

All 18 people on board a Eurocopter EC225 Super Puma operated by Bond Offshore survived a ditching in the North Sea on 18 February. The aircraft (G-REDU, pictured left), which had two crew and 16 oil workers on board, came down at 18:40 near the ETAP oil platform. The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch says the crash happened around 240km (130nm) east of Aberdeen. Visibility was poor at the time, according to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. For North Sea operations crew and passengers are usually equipped with several layers of clothing, immersion suits, lifejackets and locator beacons. The helicopter was one of three EC225s delivered new to Bond last year, and according to Flight's HeliCAS database, arrived in May 2008.
