Russians join forces for future UCAV project

RSK MiG will work with Sukhoi on a future unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) using experience gained through its Skat programme, according to general director Sergey Korotkov. Revealed to a small group of Russian media during the MAKS air show in Moscow in 2007, the Skat airframe had until recently been thought to have been shelved. Vladimir Barkovsky, chief of MiG's engineering centre, said the project has given the airframer invaluable experience in the UCAV sector. Activities included performing extensive wind tunnel testing on various Skat configurations at Russia's central aerohydrodynamic institute, TsAGI, during which MiG tried to find an optimal balance between size for a specified payload and combat efficiency.
