Parked in one corner of Filton airfield near Bristol is arguably the most recognisable airliner ever created - Concorde. Standing as a symbol to the Filton plant's key role in that supersonic airliner programme, it is also a stark reminder that not all high-technology aerospace gambles are guaranteed market successes. But it is fitting that much of the investment originally drilled into that defunct programme has formed the backbone for today's civil aerospace success story - Airbus UK.
