Al Baker decries subsidies row as a'bullying tactic'

Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker plans to continue the airline's expansion in the USA, despite the continued war of words with US mainline carriers over alleged state subsidies. Speaking in Washington DC on 13 May, he called the allegations by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines a "bullying tactic", and said the US government "should reject these groundless claims of harm". He also conducted meetings with officials from the US departments of transportation, commerce, and state, which are reviewing allegations that Qatar Airways - along with Emirates and Etihad - have received more than $42 billion in state subsidies from their respective governments.
