Lockheed Martin and the US Navy have expressed renewed confidence in the Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion, after the heavy-lift helicopter hit all its test objectives in a key evaluation. The trials took place months before a decision is expected on launching low-rate initial production. "All test objectives were met, and the aircraft performed very well. This further increases our confidence in the design, and is another key step to successfully fielding the CH-53K," says Col Hank Vanderborght, heavy-lift helicopters programme manager for the USN.
