UAVs flock to the skies after FAA relaxes rules

A rapidly growing cadre of commercial unmanned air vehicle operators in the USA took off legally for the first time on 29 August, without receiving specific permission from the head of the Department of Transportation for each flight operated for a non-recreational purpose. The adoption of Part 107 of the Federal Aviation Regulations allows commercial operators of unmanned air systems routine access to national airspace under certain conditions, replacing a cumbersome exemption process.
