P&W to tackle V2500 spares shortage

Pratt & Whitney intends to resolve a spare-parts shortage for International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500s through expanded manufacturing capacity and increased spare-engine availability. The manufacturer - which supplies the V2500's high-pressure turbine (HPT), and also owns, through parent UTC, nearly 50% of IAE - says it has experienced "shortages" of first- and second-stage disks in the two-stage HPT. This, P&W adds, is a result of an "identified manufacturing shortcoming from a supplier". Sources within the V2500 leasing and maintenance sectors tell FlightGlobal that the parts shortage has prolonged shop visits and consequently led to a rise in short-term engine lease rates as demand for spare engines increases.
