P&W fine-tunes MC-21 engine design

Pratt & Whitney has incorporated design tweaks into the newly certificated engines for the Irkut MC-21 narrowbody that were required to fix complaints from operators of the Airbus A320neo. The MC-21's PW1400G and the A320neo'sPW1100Gshare "nearly identical" turbomachinery; differences are mostly external, like a Bombardier-designed nacelle for the MC-21, while United Technologies Aerospace Systems is the supplier for the part on the A320neo. The MC-21 engine also drives a variable frequency generator, versus an integrated drive generator for the PW1100G, P&W says.
