Nurseries recruited for fire safety lessons

Nursery and pre-school children are the latest recruits to West Midlands Fire Service. A brand new activity box has been launched to teach young children fire safety in an exciting and fun packed way. The Big Fire Engine Activity Box includes specially written stories, newly-filmed DVDs involving local nursery children, floor games, role plays, posters a jigsaw and other activities. The activity box, which has been developed by West Midlands Fire Service's Education Team, includes a set of lesson plans and activities for teachers which is linked to the Department of Education and Skills' Every Child Matters Practice Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage. It is being supplied free-of-charge to nurseries and pre-schools across the West Midlands Fire Service area, following information sessions to guide them on how best to use it.
