Looking back on the Home Front

The Home Front is fast passing from the collective memory, to be replaced by the computer chip, the mobile phone and the latest device. However, for the whole of WW2 and on into the Cold War, the Home Front was a very real and very necessary part of our defence. In his latest book Alan House shows the wide and complex variety of transportrnused by the men and woman of the Civil DefencernCorps, Rescue Squads, Auxiliary Fire Service, Communications Units, Mobile Columns and many other sections, including the wonderfully named Food Flying Squad.
