It is well known that fire damages properties and can cost lives, but a sprinkler system could prevent the majority of that damage and save lives - so why is that all businesses do not have sprinklers fitted as standard? It is estimated that by 2020, UK PLC could stand to lose at least ￡10 billion in direct, insurable costs to commercial and industrial fires, and this is not the complete picture. "Each year there are over 360 commercial and industrial building fires which result in needless emission of 250,000 tons of CO2 and the waste of over nine billion litres of water," says lain Cox, Chairman of the Business Sprinkler Alliance.
