Learning lessons from the past is something that we at FIRE bang on about endlessly at times. But learning lessons is not always about improving on mistakes: sometimes there are lessons that can be learned from positive outcomes. While we still see the black hulk of Grenfell Tower haunting the skyline over West London and reflect on the inability of the fire sector to prevent the deaths of 71 people, it is important to remember that despite this disaster, the Fire and Rescue Service and others in the industry should also recognise the successes that have occurred as well as our present failings.
