Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for the position of Head of the Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) Department beginning July 1,2014. WPI's pioneering Department of Fire Protection Engineering Department is known internationally for its rigorous academic programs, its cutting-edge research, and its in-demand graduates. Established in 1979 as the nation's earliest graduate program in fire protection engineering (FPE), the department was the first to offer a master's degree in the discipline and the first program in the world to offer a PhD. Today, as one of just two graduate degree-granting FPE programs in the country, it offers a combined BS/MS, an MS, a PhD, and graduate certificates. WPI was also the first department to offer FPE graduate programs via distance learning; and has awarded degrees to students in more than 30 nations. Graduates of WPI's FPE program are sought out for positions in industry, government, and academia, and are employed by top engineering firms, many federal agencies, and major international corporations.
