Heat-release rates from burning vehicles

I refer to the article by Okamoto et al. [1] in press with this journal and accessible via Science Direct. This describes the measurement of heat-release rates from burning cars by a gravimetric method; weight loss rates of sample cars during burning were measured and these were multiplied by a calorific value of 22 MJ kg~(-1) to convert to heat-release rates. The present author would like to make two points apropos of this contribution.
