As the end of the year approaches it is clear that on the face of it, 2009 has not been a great year for fire safety. On the micro level, the Lakanal House fire claimed six lives, and only last month the destructive fire at a construction site in Peckham could have so easily ended in deaths and injury. On the macro level, it looks as though the longterm downward trend in fire casualties in the UK may be about to end.rnHowever, the issues behind many of these facts are solvable by the fire safety community acting together. Many professionals are of the opinion that it's not so much a question of introducing more regulation, but more about complying with and enforcing the regulations, standards and best practice that we already have at our disposal.
