The Need for a professional body to manage a register of competent persons who undertake fire risk assessments and audits has been clearly identified. As a result, a small working group of fire professionals from the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), with the necessary experience in the fire risk assessment and audit field, were brought together to identify the feasibility of the Institution launching such a register and to discuss how it could be developed. The working group quickly identified that a register was not only feasible but a necessary and attractive initiative and began work on developing the policy and procedures necessary to impleme,nt and launch the Register.
