At least three-quarters of school fires in the UK are deliberate, with around 20 schools each week the victims of arson attacks. Recent efforts targeting arson activity in some of the worst-affected areas seem to be having some success in reducing the number of incidents, but the cost of damage and insurance claims is still rising; and the greater the damage, the more the disruption is caused to pupils' education.
