Retail premises have some unusual characteristics which, if not recognised and dealt with, can result in them being a high fire risk. Typically, the premises are open to anyone - including children, the elderly and the disabled - and there is seldom any control over access. Furthermore, the contents and stock may present a high fire load which is relatively easy to ignite and susceptible to deliberate ignition.
