For the National Health Service (NHS) in England, the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order last October brought no surprises. Certainly, the new Order is a landmark change in as much as it 'simplifies, rationalises and consolidates' the plethora of fire safety law that existed previously. However, the NHS has been at the forefront of fire risk assessments for many years now so, to a large degree, the Order - which puts the assessment process at the heart of risk management - represents nothing new.
