'Social engineering' and service efficiency

I refer to the letter titled 'political correctness is overriding service professionalism' from Dave Collins, published in the May 2009 edition of Fire Risk Management. Mr Collins has had the courage to put into print facts and opinions that I continually encounter being expressed by serving members of the UK fire and rescue service. I have also recently met numerous individuals who are outside the fire and rescue service but are seriously concerned by the recruiting and some of the other practices to which Mr Collins refers in his letter.
