Scotland looks ahead to single fire and rescue service to strengthen local delivery

THE SCOTTISH Government is calling for the creation of a single fire and rescue service to safeguard frontline services in the face of significant financial cuts. Launching a consultation on the plans in September, Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said that a single service would reduce duplication and overheads, delivering a more streamlined service and freeing up resources for the frontline. The future of these excellent services is under threat from the spectre of huge financial cuts from Westminster - and the Scottish Government will not let this happen,' said Mr MacAskill.
