Call for sprinklers in retail furniture stores

The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has recommended that sprinklers should be fitted in retail furniture stores, after issuing a report into the June 2007 fire at the Sofa Super Store in the US state of South Carolina, in which nine firefighters died. The two-volume report - a draft for public comment - outlines what it believes happened in the sofa warehouse in Charleston, It also features a series of recommendations for enhancing building, occupant and firefighter safety in the USA.
