Three fire service managers face charges of manslaughter after warehouse tragedy

The crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in England has decided that three managers from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service will face charges of manslaughter by gross negligence for the deaths of four firefighters at the 2007 Atherstone-on-Stour warehouse tragedy. In addition, Warwickshire County Council will face a charge of failing to ensure the health and safety at work of its employees, under Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Firefighters Ian Reid, John Averis, Ashley Stephens and Darren Yates-Badley lost their lives in the fire at the vegetable packing warehouse of Wealmoor (Ather-stone) Limited on 2 November 2007.
