The british Retail Consortium (BRC) is the UK's leading retail trade association, representing many High Street names and new retail brands - around 80% of the sector by value and occupying thousands of premises. Most of these are considered by the fire and rescue service to be in the low-risk sector unlike, for example, hotels and hospitals which are higher risk as people sleep on the premises. Campaigning on behalf of an extensive range of members - from large multiples and department stores to smaller independents, based in and out of town, and in rural and virtual stores - the BRC is an influential voice, providing regular briefings to government on issues of importance to the sector and working with the Parliamentary systems.
