FBU postpones second firefighter strike

The fire Brigades Union (FBU) called off a second firefigters' strike over pensions which was originally pencilled in for 19 October and was due to last five hours. The decision to postpone was made the day before, after the FBU received a letter from the fire service employers, which it claims 'effectively guarantees that no firefighter will be left without either a job or an unreduced pension.' FBU general secretary Matt Wrack said:'We have temporarily postponed the planned strike to enable these guarantees to be firmed up. However, there are a number of important and unresolved elements of our dispute and we need to be clear that we may have to resort to further strike action.'
