Eastbourne Pier ignored sprinkler advice

East sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) has revealed that it had advised the owners of Eastbourne Pier to install a sprinkler system prior to the recent major fire at the site. On 30 July, a fire ripped through the 144-year-old Victorian Grade Ⅱ-listed structure and destroyed the dome-shaped arcade. More than 80 firefighters battled to put out the blaze and an investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the fire, which is being treated as 'suspicious'.
