New Methodology for 'Hyperfine' Membrane Filter Rating

Pall Microelectronics has developed a technique involving colloidal gold that allows quantitative determination of the removal by membrane of particles as fine as 10 nm. This permits the assignment of size ratings below 30 nm by a direct, operational measurement technique for today's next-generation filtration membranes. This represents a significant advancement over the indirect membrane rating methods that analytical limitations have necessitated to this point for assigning ratings finer than 30 nm.
