Eickhoff-a Company with a 150 year old history of manufacturing high quality Underground machin-ery- introduced their Continuous Miner CM2-Series into the Republic of South Africa (RSA) about six years ago. Since then, the Eickhoff CMs have cut in Iow seams of 1.5 m as well as high seams of 4.5 m. All of them areequipped with modern hydraulic traction drives. In the RSAthis hydrostatictransmission System faced challenging conditions of steep slopes where it could proveits huge potential, toughness and reliability whilst propelling the cutting CM uphill and reassures mining Operators that their coal contracts are fulfilled even in such undesirable geological conditions.
